Mangaluru: Two speeding vehicles collided at Nanthur circle early morning on Wednesday November 26. The accident claimed the life of two passengers, while many others sustained grievous injuries.
Sources in the police confirmed the death of two passengers, which included a student. One of the deceased has been identified as a resident of Yedapadavu, which is 20km from Mangaluru. Besides, the driver of the bus is critical.
According to Rinet Almeida, a passenger who suffered minor injuries said that the service bus was moving at a high speed, when the incident took place. “The lorry which was plying from KPT towards Pumpwell rammed the rear portion of the bus. As a result, both the vehicles were toppled”, she explained.
The incident took place due to speed and negligence. The accident took place at 7.45am, when no traffic police was available at the spot, said one of the passengers.
Several passengers were trapped inside the bus however they managed to break through the window glasses. Everyone helped each other to get out of the bus, Almeida added.
Those who were near the dash board hanging in the bus, suffered major injuries, she added.
The intensity of the accident was so much that the two vehicles toppled and fell in different directions. The left side of the bus was completely ripped off in the mishap.
It’s learnt that both the vehicles frequently passed through this road and were well versed with the routes.
Traffic was interrupted for a few hours.
