Mangaluru: The Dasara festival in Mangaluru is known for its vibrant traditions, and one of the key highlights is the iconic tiger dance performed in front of the Mangaladevi temple. However, on October 23, during one such performance, an unfortunate incident occurred when a young dancer dressed as a tiger sustained an injury.

The incident unfolded at the Mangaladevi temple in Mangaluru, where the performer, dancing in the traditional tiger costume, tragically slipped and fell during the routine. As he was attempting a reverse move, the dancer lost his footing and hit his head against the ground, resulting in a neck injury. Swift action was taken, and the injured performer was quickly transported to a local hospital for treatment. Fortunately, his injuries were deemed minor, and he is currently in stable condition.

The injured young man had been a dedicated performer in the tiger dance troupe for several years, diligently practicing and participating in the rituals to fulfill a vow made to Mangaladevi, the presiding deity of the temple. Despite his years of experience, the mishap serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with these traditional performances.

While Dasara celebrations are cherished for their cultural richness and the vibrant expressions of devotion to the goddess, this incident underscores the need for safety measures and precautions to protect the well-being of those participating in the festivities. It serves as a poignant reminder that even the most time-honored traditions must prioritize the safety and health of all involved.
