Tight security for PM Modi’s visit to M’luru on Apr 13

Mangaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be arriving in Mangaluru, on Saturday, April 13, to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), ahead of the Lok Sabha polling. Tight security measures will be implemented across the city on Saturday and reportedly, there will also be changes in traffic and vehicle parking system in the city.

PM Modi will be addressing a massive rally in the city’s Nehru Maidan. The Special Protection Group (SPG) which will be monitoring the security measures of the prime minister, visited the venue and assessed the safety measures undertaken by the departments concerned. The SPG also examined the road from Mangalore International Airport to Nehru Maidan.

As many as 1,472 police personnel, which includes 5 SPs/DCPs, 10 DySPs/ACPs, 36 PIs, 67 PSIs, 147 ASIs and 1207 HCs/PCs have been deployed as a security measure during the prime minister’s visit. In addition to that, 92 HG, 5 KSRP units, 19 CAR units, 2 CRPF units, 4 ASC teams and 1 BDS team are also deployed.

CCTV cameras are installed all around the city. Hotels and lodges are being inspected. The police personnel are also closely monitoring the airport and railway stations.

Parking facilities

Vehicle parking is banned on the sides of the road from Mangalore International Airport to Nehru Maidan, on April 13, from 8 AM until the PM Modi’s departure. There will also be changes in the parking facilities for those who attend the rally. Movement of vehicles will be banned on the airport road when the prime minister’s convoy is on its way to Nehru Maidan and back to airport. City, service and inter-district buses will take alternate route and stop at Jyothi Circle, Mangaladevi and Navbarath Circle from 1 PM to 7 PM.

Parking facilities for buses arriving from Udupi-Mulki-Surathkal and Kateel-Bajpe-Kavoor-Kuloor-Kottara Chowki are arranged at Karavali Utsav ground, Urwa Market ground, Lady Hill Church ground and Kuloor Gold Finch ground. Parking facilities for cars coming from these places have been arranged at Canara High School ground, Mannagudda.

Buses arriving from out stations through B C Road and Nantoor will park in Ramakrishna School ground at Bunts Hostel, Mallikatta Kadri Maidan, Padavu High School ground and St. Agnes School ground. Parking facilities for cars is arranged at Balmatta Shanti Nilaya ground.

Buses entering the city from Kasargod, Ullal, Konaje, Thokkottu through Pumpwell, Kankanadi and Mangaladevi will park at Yemmekere ground and Vamana Nayak ground in Nandigudda, while the cars can be parked at Morgan’s Gate.
