Kasaragod witnessed sorrow and tragedy as two passengers of the Mangaluru-Chennai Mail lost their lives on Thursday. Identified as Raneem (18), son of Rafi from Kuthuparamba in Kannur, and Sushant Sahoo (41), son of Dolagobind Sahoo from Jashpur, a town bordering Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Jharkhand, the incidents unfolded tragically.

Sahoo, employed at a fuel station in Mangaluru, met with a fatal accident when the train made a brief stop at Kasaragod Railway Station around 2.30 pm. Stepping off to purchase water, Sahoo attempted to reboard as the train departed but tragically slipped and fell between the platform and the moving train, succumbing to his injuries.

Meanwhile, chaos ensued as passengers discovered another casualty. A student, Raneem, standing by the door, fell off the train between Kumbla and Kasaragod railway stations. This prompted a search operation by the police, resulting in the discovery of Raneem’s body near Kasaragod Railway Station. Raneem, a student at PA College of Engineering in Mangaluru, leaves behind a community grieving over these unfortunate incidents.

The authorities have taken necessary steps, with Sahoo’s body shifted to Kasaragod General Hospital for autopsy. These incidents serve as a somber reminder of the importance of passenger safety and vigilance during travel.
