Mangalore: On the recommendation of the state government the University Grants Commission has granted the status of the Community collge to St. Aloysius College of Mangalore said the Principal of the college Fr Swebert D’Silva.
Addressing the press meet held in the press club he said that The UGC has given the staus from this Academic year.
The unique scheme of the government of India offers a great opportunity for those who are deprived of degree education after their PU course to pursue higher education which is job-oriented.
The programme will be administered in three stages – certificate, diploma and associate degree.
Certificate and diploma courses will have 6 months’ duration each and the associate degree will have a duration of one year. The student can get into a job after completing any of the above mentioned stages.
A sum of Rs 40 lac has been sanctioned for this programme.
The college presently offers two certificate/diploma programmes – computer animation and networking, and travel and tourism – for a period of 6 months, with a course duration of 240 hours each. The minimum qualification is PUC.
The programme runs with industry partnership with a job guarantee. The courses will include classroom teaching, practicals and industry internships with an allowance of Rs 1,000 per month granted to each student during internship. There will be no course fee.
He applealed to all those who are seeking jobs and who cannot pursue higher education to make use of this unique opportunity.
