Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister U T Khader assured that he would strive hard to get monthly pension from the government for the Yakshagana artistes.
He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the sports meet ‘Yakshadhruva Kreedakoota-2019’ meant for professional Yakshagana artistes organised by Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation Trust at Mangala Stadium on Tuesday, May 28. Khader said, “Yakshagana and Kambala are the two eyes of our Tulunadu culture which should be safeguarded by us. As Yakshagana artistes contribute much to our language and culture, it is our duty to take care of their life. Hence, I will strive hard to get them monthly pension from the government”, he said.
Sri Devi Education Trust Chairman A Sadananda Shetty flagged off the event and international sportsperson Anish Shetty Patlaguttu administered the oath to the participants. Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath presided over the programme. The founder of Yakshadhruva Foundation Patla Sathish Shetty welcomed the gathering.
It was the day of Yakshagana artistes at Mangala stadium today. Usually they perform different roles in Yakshagana but on Tuesday, they showcased their talent in sports also. Over 750 Yakshagana artistes between the age group of 18 to 83 from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod districts participated in the sports meet.
