Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister and Minister for Urban Development and Housing U T Khader presented cash award of Rs 1 lakh on behalf of the people of Dakshina Kannada district to Mangaluru police who registered suo-moto case against the accused in Thota Bengre gangrape incident and nabbed all seven accused immediately after the incident.

Mangaluru Commissioner of Police T R Suresh received the cash award from the Minister. After presenting cash award to police, Khader said that quick action by the police had increased the trust of people on the men in Khaki.

“Though there was no complaint by the victim, police gathered information and nabbed the accused. This kind of action is the need of the hour in the present situation and the police need to be honored. Hence, I congratulate the whole team who directly and indirectly helped to crack this case,” he said.

Meanwhile, U T Khader also justified his statement that lawyers should not argue in favor of the accused and said that he will stick to his stand.

“The habitual offenders should realise their mistake and they should feel that if they continue to do their mistakes, nobody will come to their rescue,” he said adding that only when lawyers stay away from giving legal assistance to such habitual offenders, the situation in the country will change.

Khader also informed that the victim of the Thota Bengre gang-rape incident has already been provided Rs 4.12 lakh through legal services authority. The victim would be provided another Rs 4.13 lakh compensation after police file charge-sheet at the court.
