Mangaluru: Condemning the brutal gang rape of minor girl in Vijayapura, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on Thursday organized a protest in Bunts Hostel Circle.
Tejaswi, Sangatana Karadarshi of ABVP, addressing the gathering said “Sexual assaults on women are increasing, but the state government has failed to prevent such crimes. We also demand that the police should immediately arrest all the accused who are involved in this brutal crime.”
He also alleged the police have delayed registering a case and the same was done only when the parents and the locals staged stir.
A ninth standard student was gang raped and murdered in Vijayapura on December 19, allegedly by six men.
Tension gripped Vijayapura as the news of the gruesome incident spread. While family members of the girl staged a protest outside Ambedkar circle keeping her dead body, some angry locals resorted to assaulted two suspects outside the police station on Tuesday evening.
The girl and her cousin sister were walking back home from school during lunch break when two miscreants pulled her and took her away on bike. Four other men in auto allegedly joined the two at an empty site near the school, it is said. The petrified cousin rushed back to the school and informed the teacher about the incident, but by the time the teachers could reach the spot, the girl was lying unconscious, gasping for air. Though an ambulance was called, she died in the ambulance.
