Mangaluru: Alarmed by the dipping water levels due to reduced inflow in Thumbe and AMR dams, the main drinking water supply sources for the city, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has changed track to deal with the harsh summer.
Soon after assuming office, the new mayor had allayed concerns of Mangaluru citizens and assured of sufficient water supply during this summer. Even the deputy commissioner of the district had issued an order restraining heavy industries from using drinking water during summer months for industrial purposes. In addition, MCC had deployed guards and engineers to oversee the water supply from both the dam sites.
In spite of the measures, the dipping water levels probably forced MCC to change track to ensure storage till the onset of monsoon. As a precautionary measure, MCC has decided not to supply water between 6 am (Monday morning) to 6 pm (Tuesday evening) and from 6 pm (Thursday evening) to 6 am (Saturday morning) every week, effective from March 20.
The measures are taken for users’ benefit, stated a notification from the MCC commissioner’s office, which has requested the people to cooperate till the end of May.
