Vidyagiri: Alva’s Education Foundation is an exemplary institution in the state when it comes to supporting sports, culture and education in different capacities. No other institution in the state offers this kind of support to build society through young minds, said Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar.

He was addressing the gathering as the chief guest of Alva’s Education Foundation’s Annual Free Fund Distribution, at Nudisiri Vedhike, Vidyagiri.

“There are four kinds of people in our society. The first ones are those who say, ‘mine is mine and yours is yours’. The second are those who say, ‘mine is yours and yours is mine’, the third ones say ‘mine is mine and yours is also mine’ and the last kind of people say ‘yours is yours and mine is also yours’. Dr M Mohan Alva belongs to the fourth category of people, those who always find happiness in supporting others,” the minister said. He added that the welfare of the society can be increased if the number of people in the fourth category increases. He then called upon the students to cultivate the culture of paying back to society through one way or another.

Tourism and Kannada and culture department Minister C T Ravi said, “A country can become all-powerful only with the desired education system.” Quoting Japan as an example, he said, “The Japanese economy was devastated during the war and was rebuilt within ten years through education.”

Stating the imprudent culture of media, he said, “In today’s world, negative news gets the front page and positive news gets the inner page.” He added that when media put positive news on the front page and meagre attention is given to negative news, only then a model society can be built.

Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Mutt, in his presidential address, said, “Dr M Mohan Alva feels the problem of Karnataka as his own and this ethos made him come forward and support the flood victims of Karnataka.”

Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman, Dr M Mohan Alva, in his introductory speech said, “Our foundation supports the students’ fraternity in different ways. An enormous amount of Rs 33,85,40,315 was spent on various adoption and concession for a total of 4,543 students in a year. Out of this, Rs 9,81,36,738 is for meritorious students, Rs 3,39,26,128 for cultural students, Rs 7,95,14,160 for sports students, Rs 8,07,63,289 for fee concession and Rs 7,85,25,000 for Kannada Medium school students adoption.” He then added that a total of 1421 students stay at the foundation free of cost.
