Woman buried alive as retaining wall collapses due to heavy rain

Mangaluru: In a tragic incident, a 55-year-old woman was buried alive as a retaining wall caved in at Udaynagar near KPT here on May 29.

The woman, identified as Mohini, was working in the kitchen at her brother’s house near to her own residence. Due the torrential rains, the retaining wall constructed behind the house suddenly collapsed on to the kitchen. The kitchen also crumbled and the woman was buried under the falling debris.

Locals and fire department personnel immediately sprung into action. However, the rescue operations were delayed as more mud collapsed due to the continued heavy rainfall.

As per latest reports, the woman could not be saved. The rescuers recovered her lifeless body from under the rubble, sources said.
