Mangaluru: The 13th Pingara Rajyostava Award-2017 was conferred on Y Sudhir Kumar Shetty Perla, President of UAE Exchange here on Tuesday, November 7 by Bishop of Mangaluru Dr Aloysius Paul DSouza at Town Hall.
After conferring the award, the Bishop said that Shetty deserves the award for his yeomen service to society.
“There are many people who do their bit to the welfare of the society, but very few are recognised. This year, there were 23 candidates who were shortlisted for the award and it is a very happy moment see Shetty receive the award,” said the Bishop.
In his acceptance speech, Sudhir Shetty said that the he owes the award to B R Shetty, the driving force behind UAE Exchange. He recalled the times when UAE Exchange was in extremely bad state and how the company’s fortune changed after BR Shetty spearheaded it.
“The present 2 lac branches and 800 direct branches that are providing service to people to transfer money from one country to another within minutes is a massive feat,” he said.
MLA of Mangaluru South Constituency JR Lobo, hailing Shetty to be a right candidate for the award, said that these recognition must come as an incentive for achievers to go an extra mile in serving the society and that they must inspire others too to achieve something in life.
Pingara Rajyotsava Award committee member Roy Castellino said that Pingara Award has completed 12 great years of recognising the valuable services of people.
“People who are involved in social service are identified and honoured with this award. There were 26 applications for this award. Y Sudhir Kumar Shetty Perla, President of UAE Exchange was selected for this award for his immense contribution to the society and his kindness,” he said.
Raymond D’ Cunha, Editor of Pingara welcomed. Former president of Karnataka Kannada Sahitya Parishad Harikrishna Punaroor, Rev Fr Denis Moras Prabhu were present during the occasion.
