Kalaburgi: In what may seem like a scene from a movie, a bike-borne man chased and stopped a driverless rail engine that had suddenly started moving on the tracks, sending the railway authorities at Wadi station here in a tizzy.

As per reports, the diesel engine was supposed to be attached to the Chennai-Mumbai Mail (11028) for the journey on the non-electrified section of the track i.e from Wadi to Solapur at 3 pm.

Having detached the electric engine at the junction here the loco pilot was involved in attaching the diesel engine. Shockingly, the engine started chugging off in the opposite direction (towards Nalwar) at 30 kmph on its own without a pilot, sending the authorities in a tizzy.

While the officials at the Wadi junction immediately notified the authorities at the next few stations to clear the signals and tracks and stop trains coming from the opposite direction in order to prevent any major mishap, the loco pilot and station manager chased the engine on a bike.

Nearly 20 minutes later, the duo managed to catch up with the train and the loco pilot, the real life hero in this case took it upon him to climb into the moving engine and finally halting its driverless onward journey.

Officials have remained tight-lipped about how a rail engine could suddenly start moving on its own, states the media report.
