Udupi : As many as 55 members of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), who are on a two week 1,700 km cycling expedition called ‘Karnataka Darshan’ arrived in Udupi on Friday evening. The expedition that began from Bidar on July 12 will conclude in Bengaluru on July 25.
K T Balakrishna, Udupi police superintendent (SP) welcomed the expedition team to the city. Udupi Cycling Club is hosting the guests here. The tour covers 15 cities, 25 districts. The group set out planning to touch five tourism circuits in the state and it has already gone to Vijayapura and Hampi. The rally is been led by Bhaskar Rao, Additional Director General of Police, KSRP.
Speaking to media persons at Sri Krishna Math here, he said that the expedition was organized in the wake of the several resignations, suicides, deaths among the KSRP personnel due to depression with an intent to help the KSRP personnel cope with the stress. The other issue of the rally will be to create awareness on environmental issues. During the expedition rally, the group planted saplings wherever they stayed enroute. He said next year women would join the KSRP and already 125 women are being trained for the purpose. Two women battalions have been formed and they will be filled in phases.
The rally will culminate in front of the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on July 25. The state chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister of Sports Pramod Madhwaraj are expected to be present during the programme.
