Udupi: The District Administration, State Horticulture Department, State Excise Department, Tourism Department, Karnataka Wine Board and Malpe Beach Development Authority will be jointly organising a three-day ‘International Beach Wine Festival’ from January 18 to 20 at Malpe Beach, Udupi.
Speaking to media at the Udupi Press Club on Thursday, January 17, T Somu, Managing Director, Karnataka Wine Board said, “The three-day wine festival is getting an excellent response. Around 10 to 11 wineries from Karnataka and Maharastra will participate by showcasing more than 150 brands of wine in the event.”
Somu said that food courts will also be arranged to pair with the wine. Music, entertainment and cultural programmes will be the added attractions.
This festival will educate the participants about the cultivation of grapes. It will also have wine education sessions to train and encourage moderate wine consumption and also offer wineries an opportunity to directly interact with the consumers.
“These festivals are being organised for creating awareness about wine grape cultivation and providing the Karnataka wineries, exposure at national and global levels”, said Somu.
International Beach Wine Festival will be inaugurated on January 18 at 6 PM by Dr. Jayamala, State Minister for Women and Child Development, Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens.
M C Managuli, State Minister for Horticulture and Chairman, Karnataka Wine Board will be inaugurating the wine stalls.
This programme will be presided over by K Raghupathy Bhat, MLA, Udupi Assembly Constituency.
Bhuvaneshwari, Deputy Director of Horticulture, ZP, Udupi district, Anita Bhaskar of Udupi District Tourism Department and Sarval Kumar were present at the press meet.
