After enduring months of anticipation and delays, a significant portion of the much-anticipated vehicular underpass project in Santhekatte is finally approaching completion, with vehicular movement expected to commence within a week. Initiated in January 2023, the project encountered major setbacks, including challenges with road collapses during the monsoon season. Despite facing glitches and weather-related hurdles, the underpass, a longstanding demand of the community, is inching closer to realization.

With a project cost of Rs 27.4 crore for a 1 km stretch, the construction has caused considerable inconvenience to locals and shop owners alike. However, according to the overseeing authority, tarmac work on one side of the road is nearing completion, paving the way for vehicle movement within the next 10 days. This development comes as a relief to motorists who have endured traffic congestion and diversions due to ongoing construction activities.

The delays in the construction timeline, attributed to factors such as inclement weather and logistical challenges, have led to financial losses for businesses and limited access to essential services for residents. Concerns persist regarding the stability of the road, particularly during the rainy season, as essential infrastructure like retaining walls on one side is yet to be completed.

Shop owners emphasize the urgent need for the completion of the service road to attract more customers and mitigate financial losses. Residents express dissatisfaction with perceived government inaction and stress the need for immediate measures to address community challenges.

While the impending commencement of vehicle movement brings hope, concerns remain about prolonged disruptions and uncertainty regarding the completion timeline. Residents urge government officials to prioritize community needs and expedite efforts to address challenges arising from the prolonged construction period.
