Recently, two viral videos featuring a girl playing Holi with her friend inside the Delhi Metro and another featuring her falling off a scooter grabbed the attention of everyone, including the authorities. With millions of views, both videos went viral and forced the creators to face consequences from the authorities.

Despite the fact that the videos were filmed in two separate locations, they both starred Priti Maurya, a social media influencer with a sizable Instagram fan base. The 22-year-old creator recently talked about how she moved from Uttarakhand to Noida and shared how her “talent” for making captivating reels helped her go from being a househelp to a social media star.

Priti is a resident of Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, and has been living in Noida for the last two years. She has been creating reels on social media for a long time but said that she received massive backlash after the recent two viral videos.

Priti claimed that she is now making a good living each month from her reels and videos, having previously worked as a housekeeper in people’s homes.

“It’s untrue that I create these reels for entertainment value or to gain notoriety because I am driven by certain compulsions to do what I do. I make a good living doing this,” she remarked.

“When I was only two years old, my parents separated because they used to fight every day. After their divorces, they both remarried, and I was never able to experience father love. I used to get terrible treatment from my stepfather, and I had to work all day and sing in the home chorus. My mother had no power,” she remarked.

At the age of 12, Priti left her mother’s house and she found job as a househelp. She used to get Rs 1500 for mopping floor and her pay was later increased to Rs 2000. “However, it was very difficult to survive with so little money,” she said. She later started taking more responsibilities and her income was increased to Rs 4000. Later, she shifted to noida and started working in other houses as well for extra income and started earning 8000- 10000. “Still, the expenses were not being met. All the money was spent on accommodation and food here,” she said. “My parents are poor. I am illiterate, I earn my living by working in other people’s houses. I have a family and being the elder daughter, I have to run my house. Due to poverty I could not study, but I want to teach my brothers. So I thought of earning from social media and started making reels and videos,” she said.
However, she began to receive abuse and taunts from her neighbors. She was even fired by some coworkers. “One evening, after crying a lot, I got stronger. I’ve made the decision to use my own videos to generate income going forward, no matter what,” she stated. “I started creating dance videos because I enjoy dancing. My efforts were going unrewarded. Nothing was going viral on videos. I once fell down the stairs without realizing it after performing in a video. The plan was successful. The video gained widespread popularity. There was a rise in social media subscribers. I started making some money after this,” she remarked.
Priti said that some videos went viral and subscribers increased, so for the first time she got Rs 80,000 from YouTube. After this, she left the work of sweeping and mopping. “I thought that now I will earn money by making good videos, but I did not understand, so I posted the same video many times. Because of this my YouTube channel got demonetised for 3 months. Money became so tight that I again had to work as a cook in people’s homes,” she said. “Recently, on Holi, I made a reel of coloring in the metro which went viral. After this, when cops called me to the police station, people again started talking nonsense.”
