Karkala: A 28-year-old youth was allegedly assaulted by a police sub-inspector on a trivial issue. The incident took place at Salmar here on Tuesday night.
It is learnt that a youth named Raghavendra, a resident of Kukkundur, was at a grocery store running errands. While he was coming out, he accidentally brushed past a woman standing nearby. The woman, who felt uncomfortable, complained to her husband Imran, who happens to be the sub-inspector at Karkala town station.
Raged with this, Imran beat Raghavendra in public before he called the police jeep, witnesses said. The youth was then taken to the police station where he was reportedly thrashed black and blue.
Raghavendra’s index finger is broken while he has sustained clots in his private area. He is recuperating at the taluk government hospital.
Slamming the move of the officer, Devadiga Association has submitted a petition against him to Udupi SP Annamalai urging the SP to initiate suitable action.
