Udupi : Gau Andholan Committee, Udupi will stage a hunger strike in Krishna Matt premises on Sunday, February 26 from 10 am to 4 pm to support the statewide Gau Satyagraya seeking a ban on cow slaughter in the country organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parished, Bajarang Dal, Hindu Jagarana Vedike, Gau Parivar along with the Karnataka State Gau-Shalegala Okkoota.
Addressing the media persons at Press Club Udupi on Wednesday , Balaji Raghavendra Acharya said that there would be a peaceful agitation within the Constitutional framework. “The cow is the foundation of the nation and support of Hindu religion. Long time ago, there was a ban on cow slaughter. It would be our countrymen’s responsibility to save the cattle from slaughtering, illegal transportation and other atrocities”, he said.
“In the Satyagraha, a demand will be placed before the union government to ban cow slaughtering in the country and pass a stronger anti-cattle slaughter law. We urge the union government to take stringent action against cattle thieves. The cattle transporters should be punished with five year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 Lakh. The state government should grow green grass for feeding cows and provide fodder at a lesser price.
