Udupi: An elderly man died after repeated attempts to withdraw his pension from the post office went unsuccessful.

Mahabala Poojary (70), resident of Rajeev Nagar at Palimar is the deceased. It is gathered that Poojary was a diabetic and was regularly visiting the post office to withdraw his pension for medical expenses.

The post office reportedly did not pay him citing insufficient change. On Tuesday too, Poojary visited the post office, but was again unsuccessful to get money.

Local taluk panchayat member Dinesh Palimar, on knowing Poojary’s problem thought to call an ambulance to shift him to a hospital. But, an ailing Poojary breathed his last at his house.

Poojary is survived by his wife Indira Poojarthi (65), who is also sick. The post office on querying said that there were not aware of any Mahabala Poojary and cash problem is found not only there but everywhere after the recent demonetisation.
