Udupi: The Kaup police, under the direction of Purushottam, assistant police sub-inspector arrested a habitual thief on Monday August 18.
The arrested has been identified as 33-year-old Ganesh Poojary a resident of of Ankudru in Udyavar. He was arrested during a police patrol at Katapadi.
Ganesh was nabbed in a joint operation led by Purushottam ASI along with the Kaup police circle inspector, Sunil Naik, and station house officer, Manjappa after they received credible information about his whereabouts.
According to the police, Ganesh has several cases of stealing against him, in the past Ganesh would steal poultry birds, however soon he started stealing valuables in the areas such as Katapadi and Udyavar villages.
A number of valuables which had been stolen by him were also seized from his possession which included gold ornaments and electronic items totally worth about Rs 3.10 lac, that were confiscated from him by the police.
The police had known Ganesh during their earlier investigations, as a thief of poultry animal’s however the recent development in the case alerted the cops with regards to his involvement in other major thefts.
Reportedly Ganesh was behind the theft which occurred at the house of Lilly Andrade from Udyavar, the theft of Sadananda Kotian from Bolje, from a house in Manipura and such other place under the limits of Kaup police station.
The operation to nab the thief was conducted under the directions of district superintendent of police, P Rajendra Prasad, and additional superintendent of police, Santosh Kumar, and guidance of assistant superintendent of police, Annamalai.
