Hindu Jagarana Vedike activist arrested in multiple crimes

Udupi: The police have arrested a person in connection with the stabbing of two autorickshaw drivers and pelting of stones on a mosque on the same night at Adi Udupi. The accused is said to be an activist of Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV). The Udupi Police formed a team to crack these cases.
The sources said that he had been identified as Ankit Poojary aged around 29 years from Kumpala, Mangaluru and a member of Vittal unit of Hindu Jagarana Vedike.

He stabbed auto rickshaw driver Hanif, a resident of Doddanagudde, Udupi on the night of January 29 alleging that the latter had driven on the wrong side of the road near Karavali Junction, Udupi. The sources said that the accused in an inebriated state, had picked a fight with Hanif and stabbed him with a knife. Later, Ankit also stabbed Hanif’s relative Shabbir who is also an auto rickshaw driver and fled the scene.
