Karkala : A woman along with her two kids who was seen loitering in the Sanoor Gram Panchayat limits since the past few days, without having a place to stay, was admitted to the State Home for Women at Nittoor in Udupi by the Gram Panchayat President Karunaker Kotian with the help of various departments.
The woman named Geetha (22) from Gulbarga Nilurkatna was almost thrown to the streets with her kids-four year old Appaya and two year old Tejaswi after the death of her husband Ravi a year ago. It is learnt she was married at the age of 16 and that Ravi was an alcoholic. Since his death, Geetha was leading a life of a vagabond and was spotted in Sanoor since the past one week. She was seen begging alms and having leftover mid-day meals of a local school. Particularly to see the woman with her kids rest on the roadside during night time, that too at this juncture when sexual crimes against women were on a rise, was a matter of concern.
The Gram Panchayat President Karunaker Kotian immediately intimated the town police station and Mahila Santwana Kendra of Karkala. The Kendra’s Family Counselor Sunitha Sudhaker met the woman and after gathering details admitted her to the State Home for Women at Nittoor.
