KSP to extend term of office-bearers to five years: Dr Manu Balegar

Udupi: The Karnataka Sahitya Parishat (KSP) has proposed the idea of amendment in the Parishat bylaw to extend the term of the KSP President and executive committee members from three years to five years.

KSP State President Dr. Manu Balegar said in a press meet that the general body meeting was held in Kota Shivaram Karanth Kalabhavan at Kota during which the proposal to extend the term of office-bearers and amendment to 12 other by laws were passed. A total of 802 members were present and all barring seven voted for the proposal.

Justifying the need for the extension of term, Balegar said that there are about two lakh members in the Parishat and elections cost about Rs 60-70 lakhs. If the elections are held once in five years then the cost would be cut drastically.

He further said that two seats have been set aside for SC/ST members in the Parishat and two seats have been earmarked for women.

District President of KSP, Surendra Adiga said that 11.5 cents of land has been reserved for the construction of Kannada Bhavan near Udupi Press Club near Brahmagiri.

N K Narayan , State Convener, Mallikarjun, Rajashekar and other officials of KSP were present during the press meet.
