Udupi: Valmiki, the man who scripted Ramayana belonged to the hunters’ community while Lord Rama and Krishna consumed meat, said Minister for Fisheries Pramodh Madhwaraj.
He was addressing the gathering during the inauguration of Valmiki Day celebration organised by district administration in Udupi.
Madhwaraj said that Lord Rama and Krishna were both Kshatriyas (warriors) and hence they were meat consumers. “It is important to draw light to this fact because the evolving debate on food habits should also include these facts,” he said adding that achievements of any individual were never bound to religions.
Talking about Valmiki, Madhwaraj said that if Valmiki was to live in present times, then even he would have had faced social boycott.
“History unravels the truth and opens the eyes of those who brag about religious rights and rituals,” the Minister opined.
