Udupi: The Udupi City Bus Owners Association said that from October 15 onwards, the city’s bus fares across the board for all tickets will be increased by Re 1. This decision comes in view of the frequent rise in diesel prices. They also explained that the buses in Mangaluru have already implemented the new rates. Hence they would raise the minimum rate for the first 2 km to be Rs 8 but students will get a 50 per cent concession on the new fare and daily commuters would get a concession of 30 per cent.
According to the circular by the state government related to bus fares, there is a provision which allows the transport owners to raise the fares whenever there is a rise in the price of fuel, vehicle tax, spare parts or insurance.
