Minister Sorake assures all aid for formation of Greater Udupi

Udupi :Udupi District in-charge Minister and State Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake has said all necessary grants and  basic infrastructural facilities will be provided with regard to the formation of Greater Udupi by  including 80 Badagabettu, Udyavara, Kadekar, Alevoor, Ambalapady Gram Panchayats into Udupi CMC limits.

Participating in a meeting convened in this regard at the DC office here on Wednesday August 6, the Minister  said a sum of Rs 85 crores has already been  released  for developmental works in Udupi under KUDCEMP and Rs 30 crores under Nagarottana Scheme.

The proposal to upgrade Brahmavar and Kaup into a Town Municipal Council is under consideration, the Minister said and at the same time clarified that there was no dearth of funds for development of Udupi.

Responding to the grievances pertaining to staff shortage raised by Udupi CMC President Yuvaraj, the minister said the  government has already taken steps to fill the vacancies. He also assured that  all problems will be solved in a phased manner.

CMC Engineer  Informed the meeting that the town of Udupi  which was supplied water from Shiroor and Baje dams did not face water problems until March every year but had to suffer due to irregular water supply from March to May.

The Minister informed that a sum of Rs 35 crores has been earmarked for drinking water supply in Udupi and another Rs 50 crores for underground drainage project. 

When Udupi CMC President complained that the Wet well 1 and 2 in the town were not functioning, the engineer concerned said it was due to power problem.

 The Minister on this occasion expressed his resentment over the solid waste management problem faced by the town. He said his Department has already given   permission as well as grants for a processing unit and directed the authorities concerned to implement the programme.

The Minister further said Chikmagalur was a model as far as waste segregation was concerned and suggested implementation of a similar programme in Udupi.

CMC Vice President Amritha Krishnamurthi, DC Dr Muddmohan, Additional DC Kumar, CMC Commissioner Srikanth, Project Director Prasanna, ZP Member Upendra Nayak and others were present.
