In a case of online fraud, a woman residing on Pethri Road in Hebri was swindled of Rs 54.74 lakh by an individual she met on Facebook. The victim, Lavina Stephanie Crasto (42), established contact with Mihial Nilgen on February 2, 2024, who claimed to be a military officer from Germany. They developed a friendship through continuous chatting on WhatsApp.
Mihial Nilgen promised Lavina a gift and, on February 15, she received a call from a person claiming to be from the Delhi parcel office. The caller stated that a parcel containing jewelry and Euro currency notes had arrived from Germany. Lavina was instructed to pay Rs 54.74 lakh in multiple installments for parcel charges, money landing certificates, and customs certificates.
Trusting the caller, Lavina sent the money through Google Pay to various bank accounts as advised. However, after the transactions were made, the caller’s mobile number was found to be switched off, and Mihial Nilgen cut off all contacts.
A case has been registered at the CEN police station in connection with this online fraud.
