Udupi: Udupi Superintendent of Police Hakey Akshay Machhindra said, “In District, checkposts have been opened at 17 places to monitor election expenses, to prevent any electoral malpractices and for special checking of vehicles. It works round the clock,” he said.
Addressing a press conference at Manipal Deputy Commissioner’s office here, he said these checkposts have been opened to keep a tab on movement within and outside the District. He also said that from time to time, police teams will also conduct surprise checks.
A total of Rs 42 lakh, which was being transported without documents in different parts of the District, was seized during a surprise check of vehicles started at the checkposts for the last 15 days and a total of four cases have been registered. 5,500 litres of liquor was also seized, the SP said.
