Udupi: The City Municipal Corporation general body meeting which was held on Tuesday decided to have a special wing of police men comprising 3 to 4 members, who will work only for the CMC. They will not be burdened with the responsibilities of regular police personnel and work to curb the illegal and irregular happenings in the city limits. CMC will reimburse their remuneration.
There was a serious discussion on irregularities in the distribution of drinking water connections by CMC because of discrepancy in the bill payment. Opposition members asked the Municipality to review the reason behind the payment delay and suggested to provide notice first before disconnecting the pipeline.
Officials said that a total of Rs 140700 has been collected and Rs 44.94 lakh is pending from a few years. Almost 92 connections were disconnected, out of which 30 connections were reconnected as the water tariff is paid.
Member Vasanthi Shetty demanded the repair of roads adjacent to NH and concretization of the state highway in Manipal was also considered.
There was a unanimous demand on the renovation of the existing crematorium ground at Indrali as the city has only three. Closing down the defective bore wells and open wells in the city was also discussed.
