Udupi: The district police observed the Police Commemoration Day here at the District Armed Reserved Police Force campus, Chandu Grounds on Monday, October 21 in commemoration of the police personnel who were killed while on duty.
Justice Chandrashekar M Joshi Principal district and session court judge was the chief guest.
The chief guest received the guard of honour from Parade Commander Raghavendra DySP, DAR Udupi. Then, along with District Superintendent of Police Nisha James, retired DySP, representatives of the media and guests and police personnel, he garlanded the statue of a police martyr. Three gunshots were fired in the air as a sign of respect for the fallen.
Addressing the gathering, Joshi said that remembering the police who sacrificed their lives will inspire the other policemen and society as well. The police department will face more and more challenges in the days to come and they are strong enough to face them under the framework of our Constitution.
“Our constitution has given responsibilities to the policemen to maintain the health of our society,” he said.
As a sign of respect for the martyred policemen, the police flag was lowered to half-mast and a two-minute silence was observed.
The music for the event was performed by the police brass band.
