Udupi: Gururaj Gantihole, an active rashtriya swayamsevak sangh (RSS) activist and BJP’s Udupi district vice-president, a youth leader from Gantihole in Bijur village of Byndur taluk, has been given the ticket for byndoor assembly constituency. B.M. Sukumar Shetty, the sitting MLA from Byndoor constituency, has been denied a ticket. Sukumar Shetty, who had expressed his desire to contest from Byndoor for the third time, had put a lot of pressure through the state leaders for a ticket.

The BJP, which has recognised new faces in Byndoor, Kundapur, Udupi and Kapu constituencies, is gearing up for elections with a new strategy. Gururaj Gantihole, who is contesting for the first time, will contest against four-time MLA K Gopala Poojary in Byndoor constituency.
