Udupi: District Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao M. said that the production of Udupi handloom saree, which is geographically unique, should increase and become world famous.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Udupi Handloom Saree Weaving Training programme organised by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Karnataka State Rural Livelihoods Mission – Sanjeevini, Zilla Khajina Pratishtana Trust, Department of Handlooms and Textiles, and Udupi Primary Weavers’ Service Co-operative Society at Zilla Panchayat Auditorium in Rajathadri. “The Finance Minister of the Country has also appreciated the unique and exquisite Udupi saree and said that this weaving training programme has been organised with the aim of producing such sarees in more and more ways.
“I hope that this programme will help making the saree available everywhere,” he expressed a wish.
