Udupi: Former MLA Appanna Hegde said that Kannada and Culture Minister V. Sunil Kumar, who has not conducted any study or consultation with the people’s representatives of Kundapura region, has put forward an autocratic argument that there is no need for Kundagannada Academy. However, Kundapra Kannada is spoken by 25 to 30 lakh people, and he should have thought before making a derogatory statement against Kannada. Further, also languages which are spoken by a very small number of people has academy of it’s own, he pointed.

In different border areas of the State, Kannada is spoken with the influence of neighbouring languages, but Kundapra Kannada does not have any such foreign language influence, he stressed.
