Udupi: Measures for peaceful voting in Karkala

Udupi: Karkala Assembly Election Officer Madhan Mohan said that all efforts have been made to ensure that the polling in Karkala Assembly constituency is complete and peaceful. 23 sectors have been formed for the same. Two have been appointed as assistant returning officers and two as Nodal Officers. A police officer will take the lead to maintain law and order. There will be a sector officer for 15 polling stations, he said.

He said that the preparations for the elections will be done under the supervision of all of them.

He was addressing a press conference organised at the Karkala Tahasildar’s Office.
A 24×7 traffic squad will be roaming around in the Constituency limits. There will be a total of nine people in a team, for Sanoor, Mundkur, Sankalkariya, and Edu of the constituency. A checkpost has been set up at Mala and Nadpalu. Senior citizens, those who are unable to come to the polling booths, the sick and the differently-abled will be allowed to cast their votes by post. They are already being contacted by booth-level officials.

Earlier 27 polling stations were identified as Naxal-affected areas. Only 2 types of polling stations are being identified in the current period. Areas of influence and opposition to voting are being identified. Election observers will visit the polling booths during the elections and collect the necessary information, he said.

There are a total of 188375 voters in Karkala Assembly Constituency. Of these, 90347 are male and 98028 are female.
