Udupi: Hundreds of boats are anchored at Malpe Port due to non-availability of adequate supply of subsidised diesel.

Fishing will not take place if the fishing boats do not get diesel on time. The Government is supplying 1.50 lakh KL of tax-free diesel from April to March. Since the annual quota is over, Diesel is not available in any of the bunks since February 14. In this backdrop, most of the boats have not gone for fishing, causing a loss of crores of rupees.

In this year’s budget, the Government has announced an additional subsidised diesel of 50 lakh kilolitres. But it will be available in April. So the fishermen had no option but to anchor the boats at the port and stopped fishing.
