Udupi: Thonse Jayakrishna A. Shetty with the blessings of Pejavara for the all-round development of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, Jayashreekrishna Perisara Premi Samiti, the only non-governmental organization founded 23 years ago under the leadership of Thonse Jayakrishna A. Shetty has already established a committee at the international level and the selfless service of the committee has gained even more strength. Jayasreekrishna Parisara Premi Samiti Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district working President D. R. Raju said that the committee will continue to work hard for pollution-free development of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

Addressing a press conference held at Madhavakrishna Hall, Hotel Kidiyoor here on Friday, October 13, D. R. Raju gave information about the further plans of the committee, he said, “We are urging the government for the development of tourism in the districts. Due to sea erosion, there is not only a huge amount of hardship but also loss of life and it is very necessary to build a permanent barrier on the sea coast”.

He said there is only one international airport in Mangaluru for undivided Dakshina Kannada districts and Uttara Kannada districts are concentrated and there is a need for an international airport in this part. Under the leadership of Founder Thonse Jayakrishna A. Shetty and President L. V. Amin, our committee has already succeeded in bringing many issues to the attention of the Karnataka government for the development of the districts and the problems of the districts.

Speaking at the press conference, the founder of the committee, Thonse Jayakrishna A. Shetty spoke about the achievements of the committee in the last 23 years. In the year 2000, 29 different community organizations were gathered and the committee was formed by Swamiji of Udupi Pejavara Mutt, who nominated and blessed the committee. He explained all the projects and struggles undertaken by the committee for the development of the coast including the Kudremukha Yojana, the Nagarjuna Power Project, the establishment of the non-pollution industry along with employment opportunities on the coast, night landing at Mangalore Airport and efforts of Jayasreekrishna Parisara Premi Committee in converting Mangalore Airport into an international airport.

Explaining the contribution of George Fernandes, a senior politician from Karavali, to the committee, and the committee’s efforts to bring to the attention of the government the construction of a permanent barrier like the Mumbai model to prevent coastal sea erosion during the rainy season, the most important of the committee’s next projects is the development of tourism considering the beauty of nature in the districts and also explaining the efforts of the committee to bring to the attention of the government, he said that considering the beauty of nature in the districts, development of tourism, construction of electric mortuary in every village to save trees, planting of plants and trees on both sides of the highway, all-round development of the two districts is the vision of our committee.

Nagesh Shetty Maniguthu, Station Secretary of Air India, Ravi Devadiga, Honorary Secretary of the Committee, District Vice President Jagadish Adhikari and District Committee Honorary Secretary Prof. Shankar and others were present at the press meet.

Honorary General Secretary of the Committee, Mundkuru Surendra Salian welcomed the gathering, and District Committee Honorary Secretary Surendra Mendon proposed the vote of thanks.
