Chikkamagaluru: A seven-year-old boy, Sonesh, reportedly died due to an overdose from an injection administered by a private doctor in Kenchapura village, near Ajjampura, on September 28. Following the tragedy, his family has demanded accountability and action against the responsible physician for medical negligence.
Sonesh’s father, Ashok, filed a police complaint against Dr. Varun at the Ajjampura police station, alleging that the doctor administered an injection after Sonesh was taken to a private clinic for a high fever. After the injection, Sonesh developed blisters on his back, prompting his family to transfer him to a private hospital in Shivamogga, where he later passed away.
The family has accused Dr. Varun of murder, asserting that he did not have the qualifications to administer injections, as he only holds a BAMS degree. Preliminary investigations confirmed that Varun is not authorized to inject patients, leading the police to register a case and initiate legal proceedings against him.
Protests erupted outside Chigateri District Hospital, where Sonesh’s relatives called for justice and demanded strict actions against the doctor. This incident follows a series of reported medical negligence cases in Karnataka, including a recent case involving a baby’s death during a caesarean delivery and another regarding a seven-year-old’s death due to anesthesia overdose.
The investigation into Sonesh’s death is ongoing, with more information expected to emerge.
