Ajman: Gulf Medical University (GMU), founded by Dr. Thumbay Moideen, brought its global alumni community together for the Alumni Summit 2025 held at Thumbay Medicity. Graduates from across the world returned to their alma mater for an evening dedicated to recognition, reconnection and celebration, reflecting the university’s growing international influence.
Celebrating a global alumni network
The event opened with a warm welcome from university leaders, setting the tone for an evening of pride and reflection. Prof. Manda Venkatramana, Chancellor of GMU, highlighted the expanding global footprint of the university and its alumni. He underscored GMU’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen collaboration, mentorship and international engagement, ensuring alumni remain connected long after graduation.
Honouring legacy and milestones
A nostalgic reunion segment brought together members of GMU’s first two batches, who shared memories of the university’s early years and reflected on how their education continues to guide their careers.
A major highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the 27 GMU ICON Book, commemorating 27 years of the university and honouring alumni who have excelled in medicine, research, public health, entrepreneurship and community service.
GMU’s expanding International Alumni Chapters—active in the US, UK, India, Germany, Bahrain, Poland and other regions—were also introduced, showcasing the university’s broad global reach.

Awards and recognitions
Outstanding achievers were honoured through a series of awards and mementos presented to ICONs, chapter heads, panelists and emerging alumni. The recognitions celebrated GMU’s culture of excellence and the strength of its ever-growing alumni network.

The summit also featured a laser show, interactive games and networking sessions, bringing together graduates, faculty members and former classmates in a vibrant atmosphere. The evening concluded with a grand dinner, fostering heartfelt conversations and renewed connections among generations of alumni.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Omar Nabi, President of the GMU Alumni Association Board, stressed the importance of maintaining a strong community that supports one another across borders and specialisations. He shared the association’s commitment to expanding mentorship opportunities and fostering collaboration throughout GMU’s global network.
The Alumni Summit 2025 reaffirmed the enduring spirit of the GMU community—students may graduate, but they never truly leave. GMU’s legacy continues through its alumni who shape healthcare systems worldwide with knowledge, compassion and service.
