Hubballi: Hubballi-Dharwad Mayor Manjula Akkur, who visited Seoul and two other cities in South Korea recently under the Smart City Programme said that efforts will be made to implement some of the best practices adopted there.

Accompanied by Deputy Mayor Laxmi Uppar and Joint Commissioner Shakeel Ahmed on Monday, October 4; she briefed the reporters on her visit.

“The team during the visit was exposed to some of the best systems adopted for road maintenance, solid waste management, surveillance in the city and supply of purified drinking water. Efforts will be made to adopt best practices with the help of officials”, she confirmed.

“The Corporation faces fund crunch to implement such innovative projects towards comprehensive development and hence will urge both the Central and state governments to help the twin city Corporation with additional funds for development”, she clarified.

Reacting on the issue of Rs.70 crore dues towards the payment of pension for municipal employees, Mayor said that she would urge the State Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to bail out the corporation from the financial crunch.

“If those efforts fail they will be forced to protest”, she added.
