Dharwad: “The State Government will start Dr. B R Ambedkar School of Economics in Bengaluru, in line with the famous London School of Economics”, said Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy.
Speaking at the inauguration of an International Conference on ‘Creating Better World: Dr. B R Ambedkar’s Vision and Perspective’ orgnised by the department of Dr. B R Ambedkar Studies Karnataka University and Sera Jey Monastic University Bylukuppe here on October 4. Rayareddy said that the government has released Rs. 107 crores to the Education department for the purpose. “Bengaluru University has agreed to part with 50 acres of land for the purpose, the Economics school will start functioning from the next academic year”, he confirmed.
“A high level committee involving intellectuals and officials including former Chief Secretary Ranganath and educationist Prof. N R Deshpande will chalk out a plan for setting up the new Economics school which will be on par with international standards”, he clarified.
“The government as a part of the 125th birthday celebration of Dr. B R Ambedkar has planned to set up 125 Girls hostels across the state”, he said. He asked the University authorities to print and circulate the autobiography of Dr. Ambedkar for free among students and citizens.
Addressing the gathering, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge batted for political power to the dalits for their upliftment. “Giving 100 concessions to dalits will not help their cause because without political power, their development was not possible and the real change will come only after getting political power”, Kharge stressed.
Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions towards irrigation, power and finance commission were not highlighted so far, he said while stressing on concerted efforts for the betterment of the entire society.
