Hubballi: Strongly condemning the BJP’s stand over Mahadayi water issue Navalgund MLA N H Konareddy has asked the state government to take a delegation to the Centre seeking prime minister’s intervention to solve the issue.
Speaking to media here in view of the struggle for water in Naragund completing 600 days, he said BJP’s silence raised suspicion. “Goa CM Laxmikant Parsekar is trying to meet PM over the issue. Hence the Karnataka government must take an all party delegation to New Delhi to seek PM’s intervention in the matter”, he said.
“We will launch an agitation after consulting the farmers on Malaprabha command area if the government fails to protect the interests of the State. We also urge BJP leaders from the State to exert pressure on the prime minister for his intervention and he should treat Goa and Karnataka equally, to end drinking water scarcity in the region,” he said.
Earlier Goa leaders were ready for talks in this regard but now were trying to meet PM thus creating confusion, he alleged.
Protest
Farmers at Naragund took out half-naked protest on the occasion of the struggle for water completing 600 days.
Members of pro-Kannada and farmers’organisations staged a protest at Sangolli Rayanna Circle in Hubballi, seeking speedy implementation of Kalasa-Banduri and Mahadayi projects, on the occasion of the 600th day of Mahadayi agitation at Nargund.
