Dharwad: The Divisional Bench of Dharwad High Court Bench has imposed a penalty of Rs 50000 on Investigating Officer (IO) concerned, for his dereliction of duties in tracing a missing girl.

Few months ago, Sneha Jolad, a BSc student went missing from Naregal in Ron taluk of Gadag district on May 17, 2016. Her mother had filed a complaint with police on May 24, suspecting a boy Vinay Hanji, who later was arrested by the police. But as the Police had failed to trace her, the parents of the girl had filed a habeas corpus.

The bench, during its earlier hearings, had taken the Gadag SP and his team to task for showing negligence in tracing her. However, the police submitted a report to the court during the last hearing that the girl was found dead, and was buried at an isolated place by the accused.

Dissatisfied with this, the court had asked the SP what action was taken against the IO. On Friday, the divisional bench headed by Justice Ashok Hinchegeri and Justice P S Dineshkumar imposed a penalty of Rs. 50,000 on IO B G Subbapurmath. The bench also directed to register a murder case against the accused and submit a chargesheet in 90 days to High Court Registrar.
