Dharwad: Youth Empowerment and Sports, Fisheries and Ports Minister Pramod Madhwaraj, Health Minister K R Rameshkumar, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader along with State Olympics President K Govindraj, on Friday took stock of the preparations for the ensuing State Level Olympics meet to be held in Dharwad from February 3 to 10.
The minister trio along with DC Dr. S B Bommanahalli, Police Commissioner Pandurang Rane and other officers visited the venues where both indoor and outdoor games are being conducted.
Later the ministers released the mobile app “SCOREUP-KOA” and the website www.scoreup-koa.in of the sports meet at DC office.
Addressing the media on the occasion, Minister Pramod Madhwaraj said around 1000 best sportspersons in different events at the meet would be identified and trained for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
‘Follow Mangalore University’
The winners at State Olympics will get eligibility to participate in national events for whom the State, the Centre and private industries will sponsor the future events. Those who will excel in sports will be given good education, he said while asking all other universities to follow Mangalore University which has formed a model sports policy.
The state government has released Rs. 3 Crore for the event and the final preparations have been completed for the same, he said.
