Ballari: A mother along with her two daughters died by suicide by jumping into a canal near Sindhavala Village in the Taluk of the District on Thursday January 12. A daughter was rescued in the incident.
Lakshmi (35), Shanthi (3) and Vennela (4) jumped into the canal. One of the daughters, Vennela, was rescued by locals on the shore.
Lakshmi, a native of Guggarahatti in City, was married to Veerabhadra of Alur Village in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and had four daughters. There were frequent quarrels between the husband and wife at home as they had four daughters without having a son. Lakshmi, along with her two children Vennela (4) and Shanthi (3) resorted to suicide by jumping into the LLC canal. Seeing the incident, locals working in the adjoining fields rescued one of the daughters, Vennela.
Another daughter and a mother were washed away in the water and the police and firefighters searched for them but the bodies are yet to be traced, police said.
