Kalburgi: In an alarming incident in Ratkal village of Kalburgi, nine members of a right-wing outfit were booked for allegedly storming into the official quarters of a government health and wellness center. The accused reportedly confronted nurses, accusing them of attempting to convert patients to Christianity in exchange for financial incentives.

According to the complaint lodged by nurses Rubika and Ashwini at Ratkal police station, members of the Hindu Jagriti Sena forcefully entered the health center on February 22, questioning the nurses about their religion. Upon discovering that they were Christians, the accused purportedly pressured them to convert patients, offering monetary rewards in return.

The intrusion and intimidation prompted hospital staff to seek police intervention. Consequently, the police registered a case against nine members of the Hindu Jagriti Sena, including president Shankar Choka, Basavaraj, and Vishnu, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Atrocities Act.

Inspector S Chandrashekar from Ratkal police station confirmed the filing of the case, stating that investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made yet.

Counter-Complaint Filed by Accused

In a twist, the Hindu Jagriti Sena lodged a counter-complaint against the nurses, accusing them of engaging in religious conversion activities. However, authorities noted that no substantial evidence was provided to support the claim. Inspector Chandrashekar stated that investigations are being conducted from all angles, including questioning the nurses involved.

The incident has sparked concerns about religious tensions and the safety of healthcare workers. Authorities are working to ensure a thorough investigation and uphold the principles of justice and religious freedom in the community.
