Karnataka is experiencing its worst dengue outbreak in a decade, with 24,521 cases reported as of Thursday. The disease has resulted in 12 deaths across the state. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) zone alone has seen 11,219 cases and 32 hospitalizations.
Currently, there are 1,358 active cases, including 245 new cases in the last 24 hours. The new cases comprise five infants under one year, 100 children aged 1-18, and 140 adults over 18.
In response to the crisis, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed officials to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, allocate hospital beds for dengue patients, and form district task forces. BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath announced a door-to-door campaign involving over 3,000 teams to reach 2.5 million households.
Health experts emphasize the need for continued vigilance, including using mosquito repellents and maintaining clean surroundings.
