Karnataka Police Send Voice Samples of BJP MLA Munirathna for Forensic Analysis
The Karnataka Police have submitted voice samples of BJP MLA Munirathna and the complainant Cheluvaraju to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis in the ongoing contractor harassment case. Cheluvaraju has accused Munirathna of demanding a bribe of Rs 20 lakh in 2021 related to a solid waste disposal contract and has also alleged assault and verbal abuse.
Cheluvaraju plans to release additional audio records and present them to the police on Tuesday. Munirathna, who was arrested on Saturday while allegedly attempting to flee, faces accusations in another case as well. In that case, he has been charged under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Indian Penal Code.
In related developments, Congress leader Sowmya Reddy filed a complaint against Munirathna with the Karnataka State Commission for Women, alleging the MLA used offensive language towards women. The Commission plans to issue a notice and seek Munirathna’s response.
Additionally, Congress ministers and MLAs from the Vokkaliga community met with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, urging action against Munirathna for allegedly using casteist slurs. Minister N Cheluvarayaswamy emphasized the need for a boycott of Munirathna by the community and the public.
Munirathna’s judicial custody is set to end on Tuesday, with the police expected to request further custody.
