The Kodagu Zilla Panchayat has launched Matsya Sanjeevani, a unique restaurant initiative aimed at promoting rural women entrepreneurship in Somwarpet taluk. Located in Mallalli, a popular tourist destination near Somwarpet, the restaurant is set to be run by 30 women from the Sanjeevani Self-Help Group. The establishment will serve traditional delicacies to tourists and visitors, enhancing the region’s culinary offerings.

This project is part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) and was inaugurated by Madikeri MLA Manthar Gowda. He highlighted that such initiatives will not only empower women but also provide them with a sustainable source of income. The venture has been set up with the support of the fisheries department and the Bettadalli gram panchayat, marking it as one of the first women-operated fish restaurants in the area. The project brings together 30 local women, uniting them for a common goal of financial independence and rural development.
