A disturbing case of alleged medical negligence has emerged from the Koppal District Maternity and Children’s Hospital in Karnataka, where a couple claims they were handed the dead body of a baby boy after being initially informed they had given birth to a girl. Gauri, the mother, was admitted on September 23 and was told she delivered a baby girl who was moved to the NICU due to low birth weight.
Over a week later, the hospital staff informed the family that the baby had died but handed them the body of a boy. Gauri and her family are devastated and accuse the hospital of swapping their baby girl with a deceased boy.
In response, hospital authorities acknowledged a possible mix-up regarding the baby’s gender during transfers between departments but denied any malicious intent. They confirmed an investigation is underway.
